To be honest, I stumbled into IT. First exposure was in a renowned international bank where IT played a pivotal role in revenue generation. The initial job description was daunting, but I embraced the challenge. Constant learning, questioning, then adapting, led me to excel in spotting inconsistencies and improving systems.

My journey into the digital world

My entry into digital was serendipitous. Fresh from training in Brussels, a friend introduced me to a technology company’s support team. The way my friend explained the role fascinated me, leading to me joining the sector. Grateful for the chance, I now thrive in the dynamic, ever-evolving digital landscape, finding constant enrichment in the learning experience.

Being part of the Digital Team transcends coding and testing—it’s a collaboration of cross-functional experts with a good goal. My passion is applying my skills to enhance others’ efficiency. I emphasize the importance of IT support technicians, bridging technical expertise with interpersonal skills for seamless operations and user satisfaction.

My journey to IT, as a non-IT professional

In 1999, I started out as a recruitment consultant in the IT consultancy sector. The following 11 years, shaped my know-how and respect for the profession; leading me to my current role as Head of People for Laborelec Digital Solutions team.

Despite not having an IT background, I approach my teams’ work with curiosity and genuine interest as they do mine. I firmly believe that everyone’s expertise is valuable, and that sharing our respective expertise is a combination for success.

The challenges did youI faced in transitioning to a leadership role in IT, and how did you overcome them

Joining the highly specialized environment of ours Digital Solutions team, one of the significant challenges was getting familiar with its daily activities and deliverables.

Luckily, I can count on my team and experts, who are always willing to explain things to me in plain words. Understanding what keeps them busy, gives me insight into where I can support them best.
